II. Frog Saga
Blonde and Frog in VW in the Great American Southwest
AT AN OUTDOOR art show in Santa Fe, in the late 1980s, I met a Japanese businessman named Yoshihisa Mori. He liked my work and asked me to paint a picture of either a blonde (of which he was enamored) or a frog (his personal spirit guide) or a Volkswagon (he was president of the Tokyo VW Club). A somewhat tall order, I thought, but I came up with the idea of putting them all together in one painting. Hence: "Blonde and Frog in VW in the Great American Southwest." So it was that the series known as "The True Adventures of the Blonde and the Frog" was born. Over the years, Yoshi-san and I became good friends. Now, perhaps a dozen or more "frog saga" paintings later, Yoshi-san has since passed away. He told me he was "going to sleep with the frogs and would be back when they awaken in the Spring." Amphibians or no, may that Spring come for us all. - Michael Andryc
